Have you ever wondered what your ideal weight is? Many people consider their weight to be an important part of their appearance. However, the number on the scales is not only important for you to feel good about your looks. Keeping ideal weight is a part of leading a healthy and balanced life.
What is ideal weight?
In determining the ideal weight of a person, the individual is taken as a whole. Elements such as height, weight, age, and fat tissue are taken in consideration. However, it is false to think that you should not weigh under or over your ideal weight. It all depends on your lifestyle. If you have a healthy lifestyle, do sports regularly, sleep at least 8 hours a day and eat healthy food a couple of extra lbs won’t kill you. However, if you have health issues like diabetes or high cholesterol you should try to maintain your ideal weight on the recommended level.
How do I know how much should I weigh?
Today people talk much more about their ideal weight because the term has become a part of lifestyle. You surely remember those paper scales from your mother’s “parenting manual” or from the school trips to the doctor’s office, when you were little. They determined the ideal weight of a person based on his/her weight, age and height. However, those scales were often wrong and outdated. The ideal weight of a modern man cannot be narrowed down that strictly. Out of the need to know more about our body and to control our appearance and health the BMI was born. BMI stands for body mass index. It is a calculator that you can also find online. Based on the results it gives, you can learn about your ideal weight. BMI measures your body fat by including your mass and height in a formula and the result is your index. Further on, based on the BMI people are divided into four body types: underweight (< 18.5), normal (18.5 – 24.9), overweight (25 – 29.9) and obese (over 30).
How to achieve and maintain your ideal weight
After finding your ideal weight comes the hardest part. Ideal weight demands work, will, self-control and self-love. Keeping your weight around your ideal weight is simply about loving and respecting your body and your life. It’s not so hard when you are already close to your ideal weight or you have already reached it. Then all you need to do is to do occasional exercises, to choose healthy fiber and vitamin rich food, drink enough water to help your body clean from the toxins and to sleep around 8 hours per night. You should also protect your body from the unnecessary sugars (such as those found in chocolate bars and sweet drinks) and fats. If you haven’t reached your ideal weight yet you should probably consider going on a stricter diet and doing some extra exercises. The diet should be chosen carefully, because your diet should stay balanced. Changing your food habits should never become a torture for your organism and health. Some conditions need an expert’s opinion so don’t be afraid to consult with your doctor or to create an eating-exercising plan with your nutritionist and personal trainer. What is so hard here? Self-control. You should find some kind of motivation to go on with your plan. For an example, choose something to reward yourself with for every 2 lbs that you lose. Remember, ideal weight is not all about the looks. It means healthy body; healthy mind and the good looks are just a result of those two components.
